Region of Manufacture : Palestine - Nablus

Nablus, since the 14th century, has stood as the historical epicenter of the soap industry across the region. A hundred years back, its thirty Nabulsi soap factories were the backbone, supplying half of Palestine's soap. However, the industry suffered a setback during the mid-20th century due to the devastation caused by the 1927 earthquake. Today, merely two factories persist in operation.

The Tuqan factory stands as a resilient relic of this once-thriving trade. Though its glory days are gone, it perseveres, employing traditional production methods to uphold the industry. Established in 1872 and registered in Palestinian records in 1929 on the outskirts of old Nablus, it remains central to the city, now owned by the descendants of Hafez and Abdelfattah Touqan.

"Our soap, crafted purely from white olive oil, serves both bathing and cleansing purposes. Doctors often recommend it for skincare and treating dermatological conditions," remarks Nael al-Qabaj, the factory manager. "Since the 1970s, our products have journeyed to numerous Arab nations like Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon, and even to European countries including France, Italy, and Switzerland. Now, we're expanding our reach to the United Arab Emirates."

The manufacturing process at this factory strictly adheres to standards set forth by the Palestinian Standards Institution and the Royal Jordanian Scientific Society. Consequently, our products boast quality certifications, marking a remarkable milestone in the annals of traditional industries. Qabaj notes that in its prime, the factory churned out 650 tons annually.
